Z2574     One-Piece Pewter British 22nd Regiment of Foot Coat Button (Revolutionary War)

Description: Nice enlisted man's coat size button missing the shank. This variant has a raised "22." Troiani and Kochan state this specific "raised" number style was part of the, "1775 uniform shipment captured aboard the "HOPE" and subsequently worn by Continental troops in the Northern Army during 1776."

Description: Here is a decent button from a scarce regiment. Trioani states this pattern is from 1776-1778. This is the large enlisted man's size. There are some edge chips and the iron shank is missing.

Description: Here is a scarce button that was originally ordered for King Christophe's army in Haiti. Reportedly, they never arrived and were sold to another tradesman who transported them to the West Coast of the United States in the mid 1820's. They were then traded/sold and several different examples have shown up on the West Coast with a few being recovered east of the Rocky Mountains. These buttons have an excellent historical background and are rare! The legend on the face has a Phoenix surrounded with the words, "JE RENAIS DE MES CENDRES" over "No 2." The number two was designated for the Queen's Regiment
