Y775 Empty Box for the Model 1865 .56/50 Spencer Carbine Cartridges (C.D.Leet)
Description: Here is a very nice original box that would have originally held 42 .56/50 Spencer Carbine cartridges. This box would hold six sleeves of seven cartridges. The top measures approximately 2" x 4.75" x 2." The bottom measures approximately 2" x 4.5" x 3.25." A combined measurement when the two are together is 2" x 4.75" x 3.5." The label reads, "Forty-Two / Patent Primed / Metallic Cartridges, / Patented September 7, 1852, and April 17, 1860, For Spencer Carbine. -- / Calibre 50-100. / Model 1865. / Manufactured by C.D. Leet, Springfield, Masss." The proprietorship of Charles D. Leet operated out of Springfield, Massachusetts from 1864-1866. This box contains a very nice and readable label. It is important to note, this box was manufactured so the tips of the sleeves would be accessible and stick out a little bit. These boxes are becoming increasingly difficult to find.
