Z1218     Mid to Late 19th Century Ink Eraser/Scraper by Mappin Brothers of Sheffield England

Description: Here is a well used 19th century quill sharpener/paper scraper. These are often misidentified as medical instruments. This one measures approximately 6.5" in length and has a rosewood handle. It's clearly marked, "Mappin Brothers Sheffield." Based on the company marking, this scraper would be mid 19th century. Obviously this piece has been used as the blade is nicked. This particular tool was used to sharpen quills as well as remove ink from paper by scraping the surface.
